Almost none of the spread between contractor quotes in Northern Nevada is profit. It is scope: how deep the grind goes, whether the surface roots are included, whether the hole is backfilled, and who pays to move the chips. This site compares the scope behind the number, one question at a time.

Why a quote and a scope are not the same document

A contractor who grinds four inches down and rakes the chips flat, and one who grinds twelve, takes the surface roots, hauls the chips away and backfills with soil, are both selling “stump removal”. The second job is several times the work. Unless the depth is written down, two quotes cannot be compared at all — and only two firms in this region publish one.
